East Grand Avenue between East 15th and East 16th Streets is the heart of La Placita, the Latino business district that grew up around Los Laureles and La Tienda Mexicana. Neighbors from Capitol East, Capitol Park and Capitol Heights walk over for lunch, people working near the Iowa State Capitol come for weekday lunch plates, and late on Friday and Saturday nights the crowd drives in from the East Village and Downtown Des Moines.
